How do I see and end active sessions?

See every device signed in to your account (and staff portal sessions), sign one out remotely, or sign out everywhere at once.

Your signed-in devices are listed under Account → Sign-in and security → Sessions and devices, where you can end any of them remotely.

• Open Account → Sign-in and security and expand Sessions and devices.
• The list shows each of your devices once — its browser and kind (for example "Safari on iPhone") and when it was last used. The one you're using says This device. Click Sign out on any other row: it's signed out straight away if it's open, or the next time it's used — even if nothing is open on it — and it can't be used again without signing in.
• To end everything at once, use Sign out everywhere. The confirmation says: "You'll be signed out on every device, including this one, and sign in again here." Use it if you suspect someone else has your password (and change the password too). Every device then asks "Keep me signed in on this device?" again at its next sign-in.
• To sign out of just the device in front of you and have it forget that it's yours, choose Sign out and forget this device in the log-out box (it shows when the device remembers your "Yes, it's mine"). The next sign-in there asks again.
• Sign out when idle shows how long a device can be left unused before it signs out; it's set for the whole venue in Settings → Security policy.
• Staff portal sign-ins are listed somewhere else: Settings → Security policy → Sessions and timeouts → Staff portal sessions. Each row is one portal device, and signing it out ends that session immediately.

Staff can see and end their own sessions from Your profile in the portal; they never see anyone else's.

Sessions also end on their own: dashboard sign-ins last at most 24 hours — or, on a device you've said is yours ("Keep me signed in on this device?"), 30 days since it was last used — and staff PIN sign-ins at most 12 hours before a fresh sign-in is needed, and a shared device is signed out sooner if it's left unused (see the automatic sign-outs guide). A phone or tablet that's asleep or offline isn't signed out for that. When a session does end, the sign-in page says why in one sentence — for example "This device was signed out from another device." — and old rows are tidied off the list automatically.

One browser holds one sign-in at a time. If someone signs in with a staff PIN in another tab of the same browser, your dashboard tabs don't carry on as them: they go back to the sign-in page, which says "Someone else signed in on this browser, so this page closed." Signing in there signs them out on that browser. It works the other way round too — a staff portal tab goes back to its PIN pad when the owner signs in. A tab that was asleep or reloaded remembers who it was showing, so it does the same when you come back to it. And a member of staff who opens a dashboard link in a new tab (from an email, say) never sees the owner's dashboard: that tab signs them out on the browser and goes to the staff PIN pad, where they enter their PIN again.

The Orders screen's three layouts (see Order & Pay) each have a stated life — printing never depends on any of them, because the kitchen printer collects dockets from our server itself:

"Keep service screens signed in" (Settings → Security policy, on by default) keeps every layout free of the idle sign-out; switched off, the venue's shared-device time applies to each.

The Orders screen also keeps the device's screen on while it's open, on every layout — the way the TV board does — and lets it sleep again when you leave the page or lock the iPad. A browser that can't keep a screen on says so under the Orders screen; on an iPad, set Settings → Display & Brightness → Auto-Lock to Never instead.
