How do I set up a device for the staff portal?
Pair a tablet, front-of-house device or computer to the staff portal with a one-time owner sign-in so staff can then use their PINs on it.
Every device that runs the staff portal must be paired once by you (or an admin) — you sign in with your own account password on that device, name it, and from then on staff use just their PINs on it.
Pairing needs your account email and password (or Google sign-in) — not a staff PIN.
- Find your staff portal link on the Staff page (the Staff portal link card) or in Settings → Security, and open it on the new device. You can also scan the QR code shown next to any staff member's row.
- The device shows Device setup: "This device needs to be set up by the restaurant owner before staff can sign in." Tap Owner sign-in.
- Enter your owner (or admin) email and password and tap Continue, or use Sign in with Google. Two-factor codes and recovery codes work here just like the normal login page.
- Give the device a name in Device name — up to 50 characters, e.g. "Front desk tablet" — so you can recognise it later in Settings → Security.
- Tap Pair this device.
- The page reloads to the PIN pad and your own sign-in is automatically ended — pairing never leaves your owner account signed in on the shared device.
Pairing is a one-time step per device: it stays trusted until you revoke it, and you can pair up to 100 devices. Each one is listed — and individually revocable — under Settings → Security → Paired devices. A revoked device drops back to the setup screen, and staff on it see "This device was removed by the account owner."
One edge case: if your account has been required to use two-factor authentication and you haven't set it up yet, you'll be sent to set that up before you can pair anything.
Adding the app to a tablet or phone home screen
You can install the staff portal as an app so it opens straight to the PIN pad. Install it either while signed in to your dashboard on that device, or from your staff portal link page — on an iPad or iPhone use the share button then Add to Home Screen; on Android/Chrome use the browser's install option.
If an installed app ever opens on an Open your staff portal screen instead of the PIN pad, tap Set this device up and sign in once with your owner or admin account. The app then opens your restaurant's PIN screen on that device (if the device is new, you'll be asked to name and pair it first — one sign-in covers both steps).
